Sloppy moves? lol. Who are you to call BJJ black belts sloppy? The comment below says he learned this same sweep from Cobrinha (a world champion). It is a very technical sweep. What an ignorant comment.

@serdgeedgerunner When doing the deep half guard, you should always hide your left arm, palm down UNDEr the opponent's thigh so he can't do an amaericana OR more likely a 1800 degree armbar.

Nice sweep

@wrestleben - I agree with Ben. I love lapel chokes, grips, and sweeps. You might not be fishing for lapels. Sometimes lapels get loose during the match - you'll find yourself in a good advantage if you drill different lapel grips. Nice sweep..and nice Carlson Gracie Rash guard.

Very true... but I would still go for the left hand grip first and if I dont get it then grab the other and go from there... but its definatly a viable sweep either way like you said. I have known this sweep for a while then trainined with Franjinha and he gave me the details a bit better and thats what he told me. Good job presenting it.
I played similar sweep on tournament but adversary grabbed my left arm and started to do Americana on it. I afraid that while I will open gi from both sides it's may happened.. (I'm white belt)

@serdgeedgerunner
You can tuck your left arm under the guys leg to hide it if he is trying for the arm lock. You need it under the leg anyways to grap the lapel for this sweep. This is also covered on Jeff Glovers deep half guard dvd.

@serdgeedgerunner RightWingCon81 is correct, you can hide your arm under the thigh for safety. It's also important to keep you opponent off balance while in your DHG, so he can't settle in and start working his game.

Its a good sweep. IMO I would get the left hand grip first, then go fro the right hand lapel. Thats how Franginha showed me to anyway. I think its harder to get the left hand grip under the leg than the other, I say use both hands to go under the leg and pass the collar, then reach back under the but for the other. This is a good one. Definatly not sloppy and very good if you can manage the lapels.

@BJJMark95
The left hand grip is definitely the hardest, but it's also optional. You can easily sweep him with just the right hand grip, but if you can manage both it's just about guaranteed.

pull the gi, pull the gi again etc... weak technique. just learn to sweep. i don't have time to fish for lapels here and there.

Maybe you should make some time to get good lapel grips. It would improve your BJJ tremendously.
