@slmUSA I've always been confused at the pronounciation too, But I figured that the 'y' would be pronounced like the y in 'il y a' (so an english eeeee), and that it would most likely be linked in, like without the apostophe

@slmUSA I have just checked the IPA given on the wiki page, there is an open vowel in there (so in my dialect its said like "shame")

@AngelBiLove - we were taught in class it can be a greeting as well as a 'good bye', I never had any problem with it in Nouméa. But I will use bonjour from now on, thanks :)
