There's no video for this, but it's so killing that I felt compelled to share it anyway. This is the late, great Steve Lacy's trio playing Thelonious Monk's "Shuffle Boil" from the album, The Holy la.

Steve Lacy, soprano saxophone
Jean-Jacques Avenel, double bass
John Betsch, drums

  • @sml8060sound It's my pleasure to share this great music and it makes me really happy to see someone else discover the inimitable master Steve Lacy. I'll try to upload some more from this album when I can.

  • Zorn's version is great!!!!

  • Hey SaxHero: Thanks so much for posing this!!!! This is my all-time favorite Steve Lacy interpretation of this tune: I love Monk's music. I remember getting the Reflections album on vinyl. It was probably my 3rd jazz record and was just blown away! Elvin Jones, Mal Waldron, Buell Neidlinger played on it, and I was floored! But my roommate gave me this album, and this tune tops even the entire Reflections album!!! In my humble opinion...
