  • Kingdom of Heaven, 300, Robin Hood, Wyatt Earp, every time there's a movie set around historical figures there's people bitching and moaning about how much the movie sucks due to historical inaccuracy. News Flash: These aren't documentaries, they're entertainment, the stories are intentionally made to be larger than life and entertaining. You want historical accuracy, watch the History Channel

  • He was so elegant looking in this movie, but you could see that he was so powerful at the same time. Ed Norton did a fantastic job, I cried like a little bitch when he passed away.

  • @FerretJohn I dare say you will get more historical accuracy from movies than the history channel, with such focus currently on aliens or programmes about people buying and selling stuff...

  • @FerretJohn

History channel is actually terrible if you want historical accuracy, though.

  • In regards to the film itself, I would like to say that both Edward Norton's and Jeremy Irons performances were stunning. Along with Tiberius (and of course Saladin), Baldwin IV was my favorite character in the film. I found his story and his demeanor to be the most touching and honestly, the most haunting. For some strange reason, I felt a strong connection with both Baldwin IV and Tiberius. Even from the standpoint of film alone, it's a shame the Kingdom of Heaven is so underrated.

  • I've studied the Crusades for a while, and this is a great portrayal of them, even if parts of it are dramatized (mainly the romance). It should be noted, though, that Baldwin IV, along with Raymond III of Tripoli (Tiberius in the film) and other members of his court did want a level of coexistence with the Muslims. Politics played a large part of it, but some Arab chroniclers had great praise for the 'Leper King'. It's true, too, the he won Saladin's grudging (and lasting) respect in 1177.

  • @squamish4244 I think it's just hollywood's way of creating a Saladin that has a more personal and emotional reason for killing Reynald (though he was such aa ugly and annoying twat that most people wouldn't really need a reason...) I felt like he was very human and likeable in the film, because we knew that he lost someone close to him. I agree that sometimes they go overboard, but hollywood epics aren't really meant to be a regurgitation of history books, and they do have creative license!! :)

  • @FerretJohn ^^
