I used to live in LA before moving back. The lifestyle of spending 2 hours a day on the freeway because of sprawl and smog so thick you can't see a hundred yards is why I moved back. Now all these groups from there finger wag us as the problem. The peope there won't change but I just noticed they just passed something that "Dirty Oil" has to be indentified at pump. So, some guy fill up his Escalade for the 3rd time in week thinks he's doing his part. Oh the hypocracy.

These corporations lied for years about the water quality around the tar sands. The government had to take over monitoring. If the same amount of money being invested in the tar sands was invested instead in a clean energy infrastructure for Canada, the country could eliminate its dependence on fossil fuels. Of course, the U.S. would probably just take the oil anyway.

As long as the concept that a corporation's first respectability is the the ever increasing profits of the share holders, only the ignorant will believe Corporate mouth when they suggested they will act responsibly. The tar sands aren't inexpensive to produce only high prices for products made from oil can support. Keep that in mind when US politicians tell American the pipeline means lower prices for Americans That pipeline is likely to ship the oil out od CA & US to overseas

hmm it seems a new article in Nature Climate Change states mountain coal top mining has already disturbed 10 times the surface area than the Oilsands will ever possible disturb. It also states the carbon resulting on Coal in general is about 50 times more damaging to the climate than if they mine every last bit of the oilsands. I guess shutting down 100s of thousands of jobs in the US is more difficult than shutting down 100s of thousands of Canadian jobs.

canadians are mostly of european extraction where they should have stayed in my opinion, with their tar sands oil extraction and their oppression of the indigenous just like their "cracker," cousins down south, they haven't the mettle to stand against pollution and oppression; i say boycott cracker canada and open the border with mexico for a little fresh air
