"Edward Said is the late world famous Palestinian intellectual and literature critic. He was a prominent member of the Palestinian parliament-in-exile for 14 years until he quietly stepped down in 1991. In 1948, Said and his family were dispossessed from Palestine and settled in Cairo. He came to the United States to attend college and lived in New York for many years. Because of his advocacy for Palestinian self-determination and his membership in the Palestine National Council, Said was not allowed to visit Palestine until several years ago and passed away in 2003.

The late Edward Said was a professor of English and comparative literature, known as both a scholar of modern literature and theory as well as a scholar of Middle East politics. He also authored the groundbreaking book Orientalism, a seminal evaluation of Western misperceptions of the East (Muslim Orient), which set the stage for post-colonial studies. Many people should watch this video, before now i was fed on information that depicted the east as a very frightening place with violent sadistic people...now i know better... scales have fallen from my eyes ! from now on, i will make my own judgements...our differences are historical and not genetic...

This is a very powerful video!! kudos to doctor Said, because someone needed to tackle this very important aspect of reality in the Muslim world.

In order to understand and fix the present, one has to be able to go back in time and find out what went wrong, and this is exactly what he did in this video!!

Muslim terrorism is bs. How many of the actual atrocities that have been attributed to "extremist jihadists" are actually the work of genuine muslim extremists? I say very little, look at Bin Laden for instance, heres a man who admitted instantly to the crimes he'd committed but he denied all the way doing 911 and the evidence backs him on that. We have been seriously brainwashed about muslims and i believe the ppl doing the lies are the actual criminals of 911 etc

@asopaso07, religion and tribalism are what divide Iraq into Kurdish/Sunni/Shia sections, not Western meddling. You could make a fair case that the United States is indirectly responsible for unleashing these forces, but not for imposing them. Have enough respect for Iraqis and Muslims to grant them full moral agency, which entails ethical responsibility for brutal fanaticism when it happens. There was no logical inevitability in the explosion of internecine warfare following Saddam.

Firstly, I am not a liberal. I do not support liberalism and hold it responsable for the majority of social problems we have. I don't believe in promoting compeition and individualism. I firmly stand against the "liberal" class segregated, patriarchal society. I am for freedom, health and education to everyone regardless of class, gender, orientation, religion and race. I am a SOCIALIST!

I am not a liberal infact, I think the root cause of all social problems is liberalism and the promotion of competition and the individual. I am a socialist and stand for human freedom and rights no matter what their class, religion, race, orientation or gender maybe. The past? It was only 100 years ago! The West doesn't use religion, correct, because now they have capitalism. The Middle Eastern wars are still happening. Child labour and third world exploitations. Genocides. Palestine. Dividing countries like Iraq into Kurdish-unni-Shitte sections, creating internal wars and stealing oil/petrol while everyone is busy killing one another. Its still a reality. 90% of the world is below poverty line while 10% is happily exploiting them.
