One of the most famous scenes in movie history and a few of the many scenes it has inspired. Please view the new version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-HSntXuGYI&feature=channel_video_title

  • The people who think the Star Wars stair scene is an homage to Odessa Steps need to watch more movies - starting with Leni Riefenstahl's TRIUMPH OF THE WILL.

  • @alsolikelife I agree. I wish I had never included it.

  • The Star Wars scene does make sense as a homage. Stairs, guns and political change? Just cause George Lucas is an ass doesn't mean he hasn't made attempts to look professional ;)

  • @MethodicalPancake I agree. I added it after a user insisted that I include it. But I've never thought that it made sense as an homage. Two years after posting this version of the video, I now know of many more homages to the Odessa Steps sequence, all thanks to fellow YouTube users. I'll try to edit together a new version and post it as soon as I can. My only worry is that copyright holders will block the new version. In fact, about a year ago, I posted a newer better version that got blocked.

  • Okay, just because a scene involves guns and stairs does not mean it was influenced by Potemkin...

  • Boy- "Where were you?"

    Mom- "Where Were You!"

    Boy- "Bitch, I asked first!"

  • Revolutionary for its time as cinema. But crude, if effective, Bolshevik propaganda otherwise. The events surrounding the famous mutiny on the Potemkin were "reinvented" to serve the Communist cause. Art at the service of ideology.

  • @Schinshikss Insightful comment.

  • It's rather interesting to see the huge difference between Potemkin and other American film cutscene involving stairs and guns -- the Soviets (or Russians) think the biggest menace of the society comes from the top, while the Americans think they come from the bottom.

How can you guys be so confident of your government, American?

  • Ist jetzt jeder Film, in dem ne Treppe vorkommt, ne Hommage an Eisenstein oder was?

  • Joshua, you bastard.

  • @alsolikelife rather true. Since Lucas has admitted to showing more influence for the Empire for Nazism.

  • LOL Naked Gun 3 1/3

  • @alsolikelife ahhh, you might want to be careful mentioning Riefenstahl lolol...a very, very well made film, but not exactly the most noble of subjects hahaha...

  • @alsolikelife No one needs to watch the Triumph of the Will.
