While Jack is getting a haircut he reads in the newspaper that Irene Dunne is making a new movie and Vincent Price will be the leading man. Jack remarks that he just had lunch with director Gregory Ratoff last week and the subject never came up.

Jack decides that he wants Price's role and pays Mr. Ratoff a visit. Mr. Ratoff is stunned at the thought of Jack taking Price's role and makes that clear to Jack. Jack is not to be deterred easily however and calls Irene Dunne to try to persuade her to give him the role. He finally cajoles his way into attending a rehearsal at Miss Dunne's house that night.

Jack arrives at Miss Dunne's house and receives a chilly reception from Vincent Price as well as Dunne and Ratoff. During the rehearsal, Jack does everything he can to create distractions as Dunne and Price read their lines. In fact, he does this so well that the whole project can only have one ending.

Jack makes a "gag announcment" concerning the latest CBS affiliate to join the network; at that time, most of CBS' live entertainement programs often interrupted their proceedings to welcome a "new affiliate" around the beginning of the month {Ed Sullivan, Arthur Godfrey. John Daly on "WHAT'S MY LINE?" and Bud Collyer on "BEAT THE CLOCK" often did this- "We'd like to welcome WPU-TV, Channel 69 in Dwirp, Kansas, a new member of the CBS family, just joining us this evening..."}.

  • I seem to remember Johnny Carson announcing new affiliate stations. I guess the tradition carried on.

  • The final commercial. at 2:23, features "The Sweetheart Of Lucky Strike", Dorothy Collins (who was the featured singer of their "YOUR HIT PARADE" program on Saturdays), reminding us that Christmas is coming, and the best gift to give in 1953 is....Jack's comment about this NOT being "ROBERT MONTGOMERY PRSENTS" at 3:30 (primarily sponsored by Lucky Strike on alternate Mondays over NBC) is due to the fact he had "dramatic actors" Vincent Price and Irene Dunne as his guests...
