The Apple 1 historical microcomputer sold at Christie's Auction in London on November 23, 2010 was probably the first time such an item was sold at Christie's. It was a brilliant idea for the seller of the Apple 1 to use a company with such a high international profile and reputation. It was brilliant if the street talk is true that the seller had purchased the some computer on Ebay a year or so earlier for $50,000. WOW what a great investment to go from $50,000 to $213,000 in less than 2 years. The Apple 1 sold at Christie's was in good condition and good documentation including an original letter signed by Steve Jobs. The computer board was not all original as it had a replacement microprocessor chip from the 1980's installed. To me this seems important however it sure did not keep the bidding from going to high values and more than one bidder. The starting bidding moved up rather fast to the final price of $213,000. Does anyone have a idea how many bidders were involved ? Please leave a comment if you know.

Steve Wozniak was offered first class airfare to come and be part of the auction. I understand he only heard about the offer a day or two before the event and had to make a quick trip. He did enjoy the experience and you can hear his story at this site http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAU_GoFIi5A

The publicity after the auction was almost as much before the sale - I guess not many thought the price range suggested by Chistie's would be correct.

Their are many comments on the web about the Christie's auction of the Apple 1 and if you have more interest just do a Google search "Apple 1 sold at Christie's" and you fine plenty to read. • Hi Thanks again - My wife and others here also tell me my voice is good for the videos. Maybe teaching 'Electronics and Automation ' at Virginia Tech for 31 years helped . I figured the other day that I did about 7000 lectures during that time. Dave

  • @AppleMacintosh128k Thank you so much for the nice comment. It is comments like yours that keep me making videos. I am getting better - my opinion - and using much better editing software 'Power Director 10' and better Sony camera. There are so many different videos I would like to make of computers in my collection and education ones. I have many other projects like our "Chantilly Festival Farm' here in Floyd but having fun. Only 73 last week so guess I will keep at it.

I have one on reading resistor lcolor codes and have in mind doing a whole series on basic electronics . To many other projects but I will get more done. I taught instrumentation for 31 years at Virginia Tech Follow us at twitter-com/n4usa put out some tweets about your videos - Dave

  • Cool video, could you, please mention my youtube channel " Hamradio2008 " I am aspiring to share my electronics homebrew projects and learn from youtube. Thanks

  • @umajunkcollector The price is for sure partly dependent on the Apple name and success of the company- the fact that Steve Wozniak designed a really great microcomputer for the time with a minimum of components. It would had died if he had not designed the Apple 2 which was a real plug and play from the get go. The fact that Apple is still in business and a very large company with still some great products. At least 600 companies tried to make computers in the 1970.s most have little value.
