@ragnarocks0 Oh I don't think I actually argued that - no problem. Perhaps I have confused with another poster! I believe governments should be open with information for the very reasons you set out. But I disagree with Assange's approach. The danger is that he puts the information not in the hands of the people but in pressure groups with their own agenda and naturally tending to display that information to their liking. Which is what I say the press can do.

@JackRance1910 By releasing classified information the press puts the power into the hands of the people. If the government is hiding something then it believes the information would cause the people to adversely view the current administration. You can raise the point that "well what if it causes the country to loose a war and result in the death of soldiers." A valid point, but it is more important for the people to decide whether or not this war is justifiable at all.

i couldnt remmember what he said. I just saw the video and I summize, dianetics is demons so all those people wear that scary V mask.

Assange confuses personal "freedom of expression" with "press freedom." The Press is able to destroy people, organisations, freedom fighters et al. They must sometimes challenged as they have great power. What Assange sometimes suggests is that the Press should do what it wants without challenge. Not all newspapers are of the Guardian persuasion! The libel laws are abused by fat cats but so is the power of the press.

@EpicPoseidonBeard Alastair Mullis isn't a corporate fat cat, he's a professor at the Norwich Law School.

Thumbs up if you want to see a debate with Julian Assange and Christopher Hitchens. Man that would be something.
"No, that's not what you said, is it?"
"I can't remember."
"I can."
Are you paying attention, people? That's intelligence.
