I chopped up some of Ohta San's Love Story album. Ohta San is a well renowned Hawaiian Ukulele player. He was the Jake Shimabukuro of the previous generation. I like this one. It is still a totally unsequenced piece of work. The chops on the MicroSampler are triggering the blork rhythm set on the Mini-AK. I started to look at the instruction manual on the Mini-Ak, and it goes a lot deeper than I realized. It seemed so simple on the surface. Eventually, I'll get around to bouncing all of these beats onto my MPC for the real sequencing. For now, I'm giving my vinyl a good look, trying to lay the foundation for an album this year. I think when I hit about 30 tracks, I'll start to choose the best ones and really work them good on the MPC and add a lot more elements to it. The MicroSampler has reinvented beat making for me. I can make more than a few sketch pad beats in one night, and it isn't frustrating like it used to be. I don't spend half my time assigning sounds to pads and chopping up crap anymore. I just use my ears and hold down the keys when I hear something I like. Most of the time, I'm just holding down the keys on the down beats. It is too easy....I can cycle through song after song looking for the perfect chops now. It is a good thing too because my friend just gave me the load of vinyl...
