Yeah, when he shouts the third "Yes I do" and slaps his fist on the table you can feel his anger like so real.

This is what is great about Toby. That he can sell this kind of line. We can feel that he absolutely means what he says. In a lessor actor's hands this line might seem corny.

@MsDDiddy Utopia is nowhere. . It is because we are flawed, imperfect beings that we know we cannot be certain. To stay free nation - we need to be comprehensively self critical. Without this, what are we but slaves who live in fear of another''s wrath, subject to their will alone. Plato was wrong - there are no humans fit to be mankind's omnipotent Guardians. My 'utopia' is different Greek word 'pharhesia' - free speech. This includes the right to live offend - some times the necessity.

@sukneh: yeah you're right. although i have to be honest, sometimes i wish we had selective freedom of speech and all the dumb hateful people are not allowed to voice their opinions. that's my utopia!

@MsDDiddy It's not enough. The principle Toby assaults is law and liberty. Thoughts are free, and only action punishable. There is in WW too much arrogance of power, that to do a great right it is acceptable to do wrong,. There is a pornography of power on display, the desire to throw you weight around because you can. At its best, Monarchy is the best form of government, but it is seldom satisfied with the power it has. It looks for excuses to grab more power. First good excuses - then bad.

@sukneh: the difference is though, is that everyone wearing a white sheet, a.k.a. klan members, is fueled by hatred and racism. not everyone dressed as a Muslim is hateful terrorist. therefore, toby's statement can be more justified than someone saying to lock up everyone in muslim dress.

@my2c OK, it's post 9/11 and do we pound on the table and shout "I want to arrest everyone in Muslim dress. yes I do, yes I do". Not a good idea? Than neither is this one.
