Barbara King knows the importance of education, and values the impact it has made in her life. Barbara first realized she was onto something while working as phlebotomist. She noticed that while she drew blood from patients, they would often share their stories; telling her about deep and personal issues that affected them. Barbara recognized that with some training, she could provide a professional perspective to her patients, and help them work through their challenges. She quickly decided that a career in counseling was to be her life's ambition.
After researching numerous schools, Barbara identified Cambridge College as her top choice for pursuing the professional credentials and skills necessary to jump-start her new career.
One crucial skill Barbara says she learned in the classroom that now helps her in her work is how to listen. "I love talking," she says," but Cambridge College really focused on being able to listen to the client," which in turn allows her to be able to "pick up signs...where it really is important to know that something is going on."
