BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY — ReThink Review

BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY is based on the true story of Ron Kovic — a conservative, all-American boy who was paralyzed in Vietnam and forced to question and confront his faith in God, country and government — is probably my favorite Oliver Stone movie, and it's by far the best thing Tom Cruise has ever done. And at a time when we are stuck in another needless, unwinnable war with republicans and teabaggers claiming they alone can define what makes a true patriot, BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY is a movie that deserves to be seen.

Thanks for posting this. I too was a kid when this movie came out. I hadn't really thought about it in a while, but I suppose it was Vietnam movies like this that shaped my worldview.

@MarmaladeINFP I was still quite into war when i saw this, especially from shows like TOUR OF DUTY. I think this movie really changed how i looked at war, and i'm glad it did

@jsjkim Ah, yes... Tour of Duty. I'd forgotten about that one. It's amazing how many movies and shows about Vietnam that were on tv back then. Another movie based on a book that influenced my young mind was In Country. It was also about Vietnam veterans, but less politically melodramatic than Born on the Fourth of July.
