Wow-- what a spectacular performance. She's just on fire. Both the passion and the technique are there. Kyung Wha Chung is one of my favorites, and she's at her best playing this kind of late-Romantic fare. Great stuff.

Glad you said that - I agree with everyone else about the quality of the performance - it really does transfix - but why did they have to record it next to a high tension power transformer? And let sheep roam free in the concert hall?

How nice of him so that. As I understand it, they (Simon and Kyung Wha) collaborated for the Bartok and Brahms concertos.

both are incredible pieces. I love Walton. The viola concerto is wonderful too.

the walton is more underrated than the goldmark

you have to love her playing this concerto!

do you know the other korean volienist? who was on Kang Ho Dong show.
She does have a strange habit of playing into the orchestra as opposed to the audience. Makes listening to live performances a little difficult in terms of volume. wonderful violinist otherwise.

As once she mentioned at an interview, the most important thing in performing music is after all communication; and this is a multi-layered, communication with the composer, with other players and ultimately with the audience. In that regard, I believe Ms Chung enjoys feeling the direct connect to the orchestra as co-performer.

Simon Rattle commented about her "If I try something new on cello part, then she instantly recognize it and respondes to it. Performing with her, in that regard, becomes a true co-work, an ensemble, not a rollercoaster ride. I hope some day she understands how great she herself is."

Does anyone know if she ever performed the Barber Violin Concerto publicly? I imagine that it would have been really special.

Yes, I heard Barber concerto was included in her repertoires; so were Prokovief/Bartok/Enescu sonatas, Schoenberg fantasy,Stravinsky duo concertante, to name a few 20C pieces she often performed but hasn't recorded.

What a treat it would be, to listen to these works. I love her recording of Berg Violin concerto on Decca records.

I've just uploaded her performance of Kodaly duo with her sister. Though it's not Barber concerto, hope you enjoy!
