  • In the world....

  • They had to go and ruin a good thing there...Me and my dad have one of these (an 81 diesil...sharing it for the time being), and it gets awesome fuel mileage on its original engine in its unmodified state, hovering around 80 mpg (US), although I can't claim 0-60 in 7 seconds...However, we do have new suspension and a racing clutch installed (dad's bad knee is hard on clutches), which makes for fast gear changes.

  • I think a few peeps in the comments are confused between UK and US MPG, US gallon is smaller, so 84MPG US = 100MPG UK

  • The inviromentalitismist car... In the world

  • Idiots... I never have seen most stupid dickheads doing somthing stupid like this,..

  • the polo bluemotion...which...is not available in the US is able to get 80mpg...it's on another top gear challenge, look it up.

  • just more proof of the diesel miracle of performance and mileage

  • The reason cars these days, even TDIs don't get this kind of gas mileage is because of the EPA. In 1996, Volkswagen released a TDI Passat that averaged around 50mpg. However, shortly there after, the EPA issued requirements for car manufacturers to install smog control crap all over the engine. Regulators, and advanced computers that limited the amount of diesel that could be injected into the engine. So, in complete irony, it's the governments fault, not car manufacturers.

  • I own a 97 passat tdi, I get 52mpg on highways 43 around town WHILE having bigger injectors, its chipped and has an exhaust.

    134whp 224ft.lbs

  • whats your point? a car with abs airsbags and electric windows makes a car heavier.
