The government has once again committed itself to comprehensively deal with the problem of landlessness in the coastal region. This follows the demolitions of structures belonging to about 10,000 people in Changamwe area two weeks ago and the imminent evictions of more than 10,000 others, who have since been notified, in Kisauni's kwa-bulo area. But lands Minister James Orengo has sought to reassure the residents that the government would protect their rights to avert chaos. Sally Mbilu reports on a situation that has seen tension remain high in the area, even as some of the local politicians continue to push for the ouster of the coast provincial commissioner, Ernest Munyi.
So if the court ordered demolition is Orengo above the law?I think Jimmy interest is to score political points for RAO.If we go encouraging encroaching of private land by the political squatters, then we are socialists.Socialism at work.Like the father like the son.

I smell politics here, but, I'm happy for the residents. Its a complicated situation. Kenyans shouldnt be evicted without alternatives being provided to them. Furthermore, Orengo needs to make sure he provides a long lasting solution and not a temporary bandaid that will be painfully torn off by the next govt of the day.
