Actually, the Sarong Kebaya for SQ was first seen in 1972, so as of 2009, it has been 37 years. But xxquiker is definitely right, SQ uses this as an icon and symbol, just watch any SQ commercial/ad. Besides, why change the uniform if it is so nicely designed and perfect for the SQ Girl?

Emirates and Malaysia Airlines are NOT Star Alliance members, and, Emirates does NOT even come close to Singapore Airlines.. no other airline can match up with SIA!
