a Bill Monroe song
Lew Dite - vocal/guitar with Lei Qiang - erhu
For nearly 5 years, on Sunday mornings, Lei Qiang tried to teach me to play the erhu. The erhu is a Chinese fiddle with two strings. The bow goes between the strings so that you can bow either with a push out or a pull in motion. I never did get the hang of it. Sometimes I would bring my guitar to my lesson and we would play American folk and country music together. A few of these songs were recorded. Unfortunately there is no video and very few photos of these encounters. Lei Qiang brought warmth, friendship and musical enlightenment to my life. Sadly (for me) Lei Qiang moved away from Montreal in 1998.
Excellent, excellent. I am very interested in the connection between Chinese music and Old-Timey & Bluegrass.
