Here's another one hit wonder (in the U.S.) - they are from the UK where they had more hits. Video quality is so so - it's all I can find for right now.

  • Good song but not a one hit wonder!

  • @regentv980 This depends on where you live. In the US, they were a one hit wonder which is where the upload was posted from.

  • @revup67 No they were not, they were a session group lead by Roger Greenaway and Tony Burrows, both of whom had many other hits in both the US and UK, not just under the White Plains name, but with groups like The First Class, Edison Lighthouse, The Kestrels, and many others. As Burrows himself once put it "If I am a one hit wonder, i'm the only one whose done it multiple times".

  • @FabFM well I see your point but I am not referring to Tony Burrows or Roger Greenway but more specificly to "White Plains" as this is the name of the band on the record label, the band that charted, etc. They aren't called Tony Burrows and White Plains. Here in the US (where this posting was uploaded), White Plains had only one Billboard Top 20 hit (one other at #82). We dont' have access to how well they did in every other country. I am familiar with Tonys other bands-thanks

  • @revup67 You may be familiar with tony other bands, and a song at ~82 by White Plains means then they are not a one hit wonder. Billboard considers a song a hit if it charts inside the hot 100, or on one of their other major charts. A one hit wonder would be Zager and Evans - one #1 and then nothing else on the hot 100 at all, ever. Cheers!

  • @FabFM first, good debate here. I am very familiar with the Billboard books and actually started working with them to distribute in digital format in the early 90's but never came to fruition. I've also got my FCC and was a DJ in oldies clubs and FM radio. Technically you are correct at #82 though also note billboard has other books such as Top 40. A Top 40 hit was a verbal classification used decades ago when AM was in its heyday. (part 2 below)

  • @FabFM Additionally, a Top 40 hit in NYC may not have been a Top 40 in Denver or LA as charts were regional and compiled to the Billboard national Top 100. This #82 may not have made a local Top 100 in many major cities. Hence a song called "I Spy" by Jamo Thomas reached #98 in 1966 - I recall it well. Though they played the hell out of it in the NYC area and probably not many other places. WABC AM sent me some 60's playlists. There are songs on these lists that are not in BB Top 100.

  • My sister made me stop playing this record at home 'cause she thought the lyrics(She's got what it takes, and she knows how to use it) were dirty. The prude

  • White Plains weren't a one hit wonder. They had at least 3 or 4 hits IIRC
