These alternative English lyrics are less popular than 'You are my heart's delight' and 'Yours is my heart alone'. In fact I've never heard them except on this recording.
Charles Craig was a British tenor who sang mostly in England, and did not achieve international acclaim. He was however an excellent singer.

My computer problem is actually a program that used to convert CD audio to files compatible for uploading to youtube. Windows Media Player used to do this automatically, but since I switched to iTunes audio conversion is no longer so easy. Since the program I used to convert the CD audio was deleted when I purged my computer, I can no longer post music from my CD collection, but am still able to post music already on my computer (from previous CD rips) that are in compatible format.

Until I get this program reinstalled I won't be able to post much.

  • Never heard of him before - a great voice. What I REALLY notice about him, though, is his heart and involvement. Don't care what language he sings, he communicates the essence. Great, Theo, thanks ! - 5 stars for finding him.

  • I also prefer the German version, but the singing is great. I have nothing against the top ending, in fact, I like it.

I agree that the new You Tube is a mess. I wonder if they don't have anything else to do than to change things that were OK.

  • PURIST LEAVE IMMEDIATELY OMG WARNING HIGH NOTE WARNING!

Seriously though, that was beautiful. Great tenor.

  • @bretul .Charles CraigsFameIn A Night recording has been issued by Testament on 3 different cds along with a selection of Neaploitan songs and English ballads. You can buy it on Amazon.

  • Charles Craig sang all over the world. It is not correct to say his career was mostly in England. there are several "live recordings of his performances in Argentina with Sutherland in Norma and Don Carlos with Gwyneth Jones. He also sang Otello many many times in Europe He sang in Norma with Callas in Paris and also broadcast on RAI ..He was not aclaimed world wide in the way some people have been . He should have been though.

  • I have all known recordings by this great tenor - except a rare album called "Fame in a night". Does anyone have this?

  • Magnificent!

  • Is this not Lehar's "Land of the Smiles"?

  • Woo HOO! What a voice. Thank you for posting! Like my friend, Tom Froekjaer (who sent this to me) I had never heard this wonderful voice before. Bravo. I, too, love that last high note. I have this song (in German) by the greaet Max Raabe. I love both versions. Would love an actual translation of the German. Again, thank you! I enjoy everything you post.

  • Transporting .

    Five *s

  • Charles Craig was splendid and very "italianate" tenor. He had a beautiful lyric tenor voice and was probably held back only by his lack of height. However, later in his career he made a big name in Italy as Otello and is remembered especially for singing it in the Ducal Palace in Venice.
