You don't have to be a 1st generation Scot to be a Highlander at heart. Many in the regiment are 2nd, 3rd or 4th generation Highlanders.

BTW, The next time you are in Toronto, head to Moss Park Armories on a Friday night. Walk up to anyone wearing a balmoral and explain your position about them "pretending to be Scottish". Just bring an envelope with your address on it so they can return your teeth to you. Don't worry about the postage. There's a special fund in the mess to cover such expenses.

Second, Canadians as "Scottish"... the old line goes "Just because a cat has kittens in a bakery doesn't make them currant buns." Scottish culture runs deeper and further than geography, Laddie.

We fly a Canadian flag in Comrie all year round. Thank you Canada for keeping Scottish culture alive overe there - and to coming to our rescue in two world wars. Some of us Scots know about Paschendale, Dieppe, etc.

That's awesome to see Canadians celebrating their Celtic heritage and keeping the traditions of their Scottish forebears alive. I'm a Scot and it seems to me a great honour to see Canadians of Scottish blood being so proud of their roots.

@baggysmells1975555 Canadians with Scottish ancestors are not Scots themselves, they are merely Canadians with Scottish ancestors. The vast majority of Scots would agree with this. Scots simply don't regard foreing born and bred people as Scottish.

@kingdomofdalriada Canadians are not Scottish, they are Canadian. You are Canadian when you are born in Canada or become a citizen. THESE and THIS Canadian are Highlanders because we served with the 48th Highlanders of Canada. The 48th are not some group of guys who play dress up and march in parades. They are an outfit who have been answering the call for the past 149 years. Our blood has been spilled and we've spilled the blood of our enemies from the Boar War to Afghanistan.
