  • Me gusta mucho este estilo, saltarín y muy rítmico.

  • After "Endurance Stomp", the other two tunes are "Tuxedo Stomp" and "Brown Skin Mama". Jimmy Blythe made piano rolls of both these tunes. I have not yet found information on the 88-note versions, but A-roll versions of both tunes survive.

The roll of "Brown Skin Mama" can be heard on the CD "Jelly's Blues: 57 Different Kinds of Blues Vol 3" on the Pianomania label, while the roll of "Tuxedo Stomp" can be heard transcribed and played by Nathan Bello on his private-issue CD "Windy City Blues".

  • I ll be gald to reply to ANY queries you may have .I am 72 y,o,and I have list tened to this music since 1950

    Cheers

  • Thanks! Let me correct myself - could that be Bill Johnson doing the shouting? He seems to have been the perfect guy to have at a rent-party, a sort of one-man enthusiasm club!

  • Oriental Man was also recorded by Junie Cobb and his Grain of Corns a few monts later

  • This is Early Jazz at It s best ........... with barrelhouse piano by the Immortal Jimmy Blythe

    ......It rocks the House

  • I forgot to mention that there was an Alto Sax - some have suggested Darnell Howard - and that Fernandez was from Puerto Rico with classical training

  • first number is ENDURANCE STOMP with Angelo Fernandez on

clarinet ; Buddy Burton shouts ; Blythe piano ; Snags Jones on drums and Bill Johnson on bass from 1928

  • great solo from 1:19-1:50 here! Excellent hot piano background work throughout as well! (check out the background to the clarinet and sax from 6:19 to 6:51). His other solo from 6:52 to 7:24 is a masterpiece of economy.

Hey Andrew, what are the names of the different tunes we hear here?

P.S. I think the guy with the high-pitched voice doing all the exclamations in each tune is Frankie "Half-Pint" Jaxon, with additional commentary by Jimmy Blythe himself :)

  • Oh boy, more Jimmy Blythe!
