  • Sorry guys, I liked the older group better. All of them. Not feeling the new bass at all. :o( Just my opinion...

  • i definitely think that barry carl had a lower bass voice but i like the range of george baldi and how smooth his low notes are. The range gives them more flexibility to do more things.... like when george sings a whitney houston song... haha that was awesome!!

  • Excuse me, did that sound just come out of a human?

  • @musicchick581 and many other people have the same opinion

  • Would like to know what Thurl Ravenscroft would have said about this - bet he would have loved it (Thurl did the original version in the cartoon).

  • mmmm... still a good performance though i so would have loved to hear Barry perform it

  • @OE: No argument here. :) This recording is not one of George Baldi's finer performances and I think Barry Carl could've phoned this one in and knocked it out of the park.

  • Well I certainly would not lay claim that Barry Carl had a smooth voice. That would be like arguing that Bob Dylan had perfect pitch.

Now that you mention it though, people who sing smoothly in lower registers make it less evident how low they actually are. That said, in this particular, that throaty bass sound seems more appropriate to me. It makes it sound, well, Grinchy (much less legitimate a word than "smoothness" :-P).

  • @OE: Respectfully, I'd wager a good cup of coffee that George Baldi can easily work any of The Bear's lowest registers. George simply doesn't spend as much time in them because Rockapella, by their own admission, values his range, clarity, and smoothness.

    .oO(though I'm not sure 'smoothness' is a real word... :) )

  • Baldi has a better overall range for sure, but Carl had a low register that George could only dream of, regardless of how clear or accurate it was.

  • I loved Barry Carl and hated to see him go. George Baldi, however, has greater vocal range and far more flexibility.

  • @Mick040457 find 16 tons ... he has a little bit of high stuff
