Irwin, the educational porcupine at the Animal Rescue League Wildlife Center has to work a little harder for his breakfast this morning! When we keep animals in captivity, we like to give them puzzles and challenges to keep them interested in their environment.

    @2decucitas - Porcupine quills are hard about 30 minutes after birth. Even though Irwin looks fluffy in this video, if he is startled or doesn't want to do something he will raise his quills and we have to be very careful! Check out the video "baby porcupine chases his tail" to see him play and put his quills up and down when he is only about 2 weeks old.

    He is trying to eat critical care for herbivores. It is kind of a pudding like consistency so it sticks to the bottom of the cup. Eventually he figured out how to reach in with his paw and pull it out!
