I have uploaded another, better recording of Green Onions where I play the song on a Hammond B-3 clonewheel organ. Here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSQpXqb4Jik

I have also uploaded three 'How to play' videos for Green Onions:
- Part 1 of 3 - Bass Line During Chords - Slow Tempo
- Part 2 of 3 - Right Hand Chords - Slow Tempo
- Part 3 of 3 - Bass Line During Solo - Slow Tempo
My written guide for learning the song is also updated.

----------
Info text for this old version:
I've stayed as close as possible with my right hand to the organ solo in the original recording from 1962, and to get a full bass left hand sound I'm using a pedal tone with my thumb, in addition to the walking bass. I'm playing at around 140BPM as it is the tempo in the original recording.
The piano is an Yamaha P-120 with the jazz organ setting.
Green Onions was composed and first recorded by Booker T. and The M.G's in 1962.
----------
I recieve questions in comments and in messages about learning playing this song so I finally put together a rather lengthy guide (actually it's a number of pages long) for learning songs and learning this song in particular.
If you would like to have my guide for learning Green Onions, just ask for it in a comment or a message here at YouTube and I'll send the guide to your YouTube message inbox.

  • I wish I had the skills, time, and patience to play this... I am 14, I have none of those.

  • Hi munnyay

The upside is that if you have time and patience, the skills will gradually evolve. To learn an instrument is very much about to be willing to put in the time for practicing. And with transpiration comes inspiration :-)

Keep swinging, or should I say, start swinging,

    Rounder

  • @munnyay You are young, get going and you will learn. Practice and persistence is the main thing and that's what will makes you good. I see you already have the desire so go for it you wont be sorry.
