Voltage Converter. Sample DesignDC-to-DC converters or invertors are devices which convert DC voltage of one value into that of another, more often with a multifold increase of its nominal input value. Converter capacity depends entirely on its design. As a rule most popular designs of voltage converters are step-up models which operate in the input voltage range of 0.7 to 3 V. They feed electronic designs with current load up to 3A and voltage from 5 to 24 V.Sometimes we have to use such devices to power various types of equipment when power supply networks with necessary voltage are inaccessible. This is especially useful in field conditions when we have some low-voltage batteries with us. Using a couple of 1.5V batteries while traveling we can charge a cell phone, listen to radio, or illuminate tents and recreation areas with LED flashlights. One of the variants of such design is the simplest voltage converter. It was developed by very smart experts. The device can work from only 1 AA battery and produce quite a sufficient voltage of 7V. You can connect loads up to 150mA to it. The circuit has a point-to-point wiring which makes examination easy. Here I used a regular matching transformer. This is a domestically produced transistor KT209. For the device operation you will need two capacities, a resistor isolating device, and a rectifier diode. We connect the device to the battery and take readings by the simplest load. There are much more complex and practical converter circuits with various parameters. But every converter as well as the equipment, which operation the converter ensures, requires certain power supply which depends on the capacity of the converter.
