SYNOPSIS (provided by Paramount Pictures)
For a nation that proudly declared it would leave no child behind, America continues to do so at alarming rates. Despite increased spending and politicians promises, our buckling public-education system, once the best in the world, routinely forsakes the education of millions of children.

Filmmaker Davis Guggenheim reminds us that education statistics have names: Anthony, Francisco, Bianca, Daisy, and Emily, whose stories make up the engrossing foundation of WAITING FOR SUPERMAN. As he follows a handful of promising kids through a system that inhibits, rather than encourages, academic growth, Guggenheim undertakes an exhaustive review of public education, surveying drop-out factories and academic sinkholes, methodically dissecting the system and its seemingly intractable problems.

However, embracing the belief that good teachers make good schools, and ultimately questioning the role of unions in maintaining the status quo, Guggenheim offers hope by exploring innovative approaches taken by education reformers and charter schools that have—in reshaping the culture—refused to leave their students behind.

It doesn't matter which school you go to, if you don't have support at home then you will fail, it's so easy for you people to blame teachers and school systems for something that is obviously an issue in your entire community. I'm not saying that every teacher is perfect, some do not like their job, but when your kids are more interested in what is being typed in their cell phones than what is being written on the board it's not the teachers fault.

While I do agree with you, I don't think that a poor support system at home and cell phones are the main reasons for what's happening to kids. I have worked with kids who have been in and out of foster care and who have a terrible home environment, but they are still excited to come to school to learn. Yes, there are bad teachers who shouldn't be in the classroom but if you're a good teacher you should be able to reach your students and help them..not looking to start anything just my opinion.

The fact is that when you can look back at your education, you can clearly see that you learned the most from the BEST teacher(s)! Everyone remembers that amazing teacher that taught them so much and so well. I also remember the terrible ones who didn't belong in the profession who taught me nothing and got me no where.
