Gabby goes under cover to expose two villains Harris and Cole, Assayers (Lloyd Whitlock & Yakima Canutt) and clear his partner, Jerry Mason (John Wayne) of a trumped up murder charge.
This humorous sequence is from The Lucky Texan (1934) made by Lone Star Productions and directed by R. N. Bradbury.
The guy in the black vest is Yakama Canutt, King of the Stuntmen. He's the one who jumps on the horse from behind, not Wayne. He's also the one who jumps from the horse to the rail car. What would Hollywood pay for those stunts today? The setting is the San Fernando Valley. It's changed a wee bit.
