The saddest day in hockey for me as a hockey fan.This guy was a warrior.I mean he played in the 2002 finals with half a knee for crying out loud.How could you not love this guy and want him on your team?I will also say that making Lidstrom the captain after he retired was brilliant.I know some people wanted Shanahan to get it,but it was in the waiting all along for Lidstrom.

he didn't retire because he got hit in the eye, he retired because he couldn't give us anything else! I mean he played with half of a knee and barely the other one for like what? ten years! I mean you watch the film and u can just see the pain in his face everytime he gets off the ice but he still plays! Thank you Stevie, for all that you gave to Detroit and the world! Stevie Y!
