Doctors James Till and Ernest McCulloch are the fathers of the field of stem cell science. They made the first discovery that confirmed the existence of stem cells in 1961 in Toronto while working at the Ontario Cancer Institute/Princess Margaret Hospital. Fifty years later University Health Network and the University of Toronto -- the scientific and academic homes of Till & McCulloch -- celebrate the discovery of these award-winning pioneers, and the legacy of the scientific field they created -- stem cells and regenerative medicine.
