  • God bless you and your family. This is Anna Wang, mother of a 20 yr old son with autism & co-founder of the non-profit Friends of Children with Special Needs (FCSN) in the Bay Area. We serve hundreds of children/adults with special needs and their families, visit fcsn1996.org. One of our children in the afterschool program had extreme self-injurious behavior and was helped by a local accupuncturist. Has that been explored? You can find me on youtube channel auntieanna1 or fcsn1996org

  • @fcsn1996org Yes, accupuncture is something we'd like to try, but it's very difficult to get him to sit still to allow them to do this. We've had heck of time just trying to get him in chiropractor office. We've managed a few times, but it's always touch and go, and sometimes he's had severe meltdowns in the office, and we've had to leave.

  • i don't know what to say really, it all seems so sad. How does one do anything more than try to stop him hurting himself.

  • @spiderboymax You have to have a "grab bag" of things to pull out. That way if one intervention doesn't work, you go to next one. If all fails, you give emergency meds or put in temporary restraints. His behavior is often unpredictable, so like we have to all be ready for earthquakes, fires, etc...it's the same in our home. You just have to be prepared to handle it at all times. And pray for more and more better days.

  • I love the picture of Jamey with his niece. Precious!

  • God bless you and your family. Your son is a precious gift from God. I'm sure that he'll get a little better, even if slowly :) I'm praying for all of you and your son <3

  • @CDFoakley We had many kids/young adults gone for treatment. My son didn't have to go, but there were many who we thought will never go through with it. Parents had gone to accupunturists around the Bay Area. FCSN has FREE seminars every Sat. on all kinds of topics from IEP, medication(last Sat. Kaiser's Autism Center director came to speak), to special needs trust. The 10/9 seminar is on accupunture, you might want to come to that one. Email me at annawang@fcsn1996.org

  • Your son is nearly a spitting image of my 20 year old nephew. Fortunately, my nephew doesn't self mutilate. but all other behaviors i have seen on your videos is so identical. finding the strength has been very hard for his parents and is about to be a bit harder as he is in his last year of school and has been given options of either living at home with no services or being placed in a group home. God bless you and your family.

  • i care for my son as a single/divorced parent...sometimes with meltdowns to deal with on top of a lack of sleep i can feel like i'm going to lose my mind............but after the storm comes the calm again & a smile from Finn can melt my heart...different not less than!!! from having Finn in my life i have learnt patience, humility & found a mental & physical strength i didn't know i even had...

  • Thank you for this video. It has opened my eyes to your struggle and the struggle that many others face. I think you must have a very strong family. I hope the best for all of you. Blessed be.
