SONG:
Party people going out tonight,
everybody just yell 凍蒜! (dong suan: get elected)
We're gonna make you lose your mind,
we just wanna see you...vote it!

The world is focused on the US presidential primaries. But did you know that Taiwan will elect its president on Saturday?

Taiwan is the only place in the Chinese-speaking world where people can freely choose their leaders. Voting is NOT something we take for granted.

Our choices: The KMT's Ma Ying-jeou, the incumbent president who has edged Taiwan closer to China. The DPP's Tsai Ing-wen, an academic and former vice-premier whose party favors independence from China. Or former Taiwan provincial governor and ex-KMT member James Soong, for people who want to waste their votes. Turnout typically tops 80 percent, and Taiwanese fly home from all over the world just to vote.

  • Taiwan is the cool China. :]

  • @oliverlaw02 There's indeed Communist Party in Taiwan. There are in fact close to 200 political parties in Taiwan. Taiwanese people are free to vote for whoever. Two completely different governments.

Chinese people in China can only vote for Communist Party, if there's any election at all. Most of the offices are appointed by the central government from Beijing.

  • I am in favor of Taiwan sovereignty and against selling out the island nation to China. With Ma President and the US in favor of it, I am sad that the US supports handing Taiwan over to Red China. I guess with Bahrain, it is inevitable that we are selling out other countries and people's democracy and liberty for security.

WAIT! This guy said that before: "Those who would sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither" Ben Franklin

  • Nobody gives a shit

  • How can you not put a ring on Monica?

  • @1iquid5nake If li anne for president, then monica for 皇后!

  • 1:16 get a room eeeeww!

  • The Taiwanese aren't "Chinese people." A March 2009 TVBS (*deep-blue*) poll says: Given a choice of "Taiwanese or Chinese," 72% choose "Taiwanese" while only 16% say "Chinese."

Take the spaces out of the address, and you can read the TVBS survey for yourself (Hanzi, PDF file) here: is . gd / iAtkDb

  • Monica Rocks!

  • If James Soong wants to forms a united government with Tsai Ing-wen, then he is lying to the Taiwanese people right now for claiming he is an independent voice within Taiwan's political arena.

  • Vote for Ma. Reunite with China. Chinese must quit fighting each other and start smashing Japs, gooks and euro barbarians.

  • Li Anne for President!
