I am an avid WW II buff, and one of the many areas of interest are the Dutch armed forces, particularly their navy, and specifically, their submarine fleet, both K-class and O-class boats, both immaculate designs. How sad that the O-19 had to be dispatched by the USS Cod, but better that than to fall under Japanese hands....a most wonderful video on a little known fact of WW II. Thank you for posting!!!

@Ating5150 I have a photo of that party.
My mother went there with her English B/F who was a crew member of the O19

Hi again! Regarding our discussion about the Dutch sub O-19 and the possiblity that a US navy pilot broke off an attack on a suspected Dutch sub with numbers in orange: On w w w. dutchfleet. n e t (leave the open spaces) I dropped your question. Dutch subs had no numbers in orange, only in the colour white or black. On dutchfleet there are extensive logs of all waractions of the dutch subs (very interesting!). It seems no sub operated in the Wake area. Sincerely,'Change6609'

Hi! I'm not sure if ourDutch submarines in the Pacific had numbers in orange painted on the cunning tower.
I'll try to check this out.
But Dutch air force planes did carry an orange triangle on them, which they only carried in wartime, (our normal roundle, in red, white and blue could be too much like the british roundle)

Thank you Colacas for uploading this video! This means a lot to me! In 2003 I asked the USS Cod for this partically film, because my granddad was one of the crewmembers of the O19. He passed away a couple of years ago, but during his live he told us about this rescue by the USS Cod. After they were dropped off in Australia, the O19 crew gave a Thank You party for their rescuefriend in Perth. That's why the USS Cod has a martini glass on their tower. What's the name of the documentary? Thanx!
