Video: Care for You by Paul Christian Kühni

Care for You', the video, is a somewhat melancholy love story not unlike the piece of music by Wolfsheim, one of Germanys top Electronic-Pop bands who, (after a rough and tumultuous early evolution), have ingeniously filled a niche in the array of alternative music styles and, at the same time made themselves known worldwide with such hits as 'the Sparrows and the nightingale' and 'Find you're Gone'.

I've always enjoyed their sound and the overall dark tone quality of their music admired the musician ship of this Duo comprised of artists Markus Reinhardt & and vocalist Peter Heppner, who are dynamic performers with wide interests who have done various collaborations with other musicians over the years. I additionally enjoy the cinematic quality of their official videos finding their preferred stark, narrative style unique among other videos by bands of this genre. Heppner's lyrics are another plus with me, where in the case of 'Care for You' they are somewhat common place a simple, but more often times they are exceedingly poetic and existential -- and always cleverly constructed. "Wolfsheim is one of Germany's inveterate synth pop groups, a band that has outlived numerous rock & roll trends by remaining committed to their original sound. The group was formed in 1987 by siblings Markus Reinhardt and Olli Reinhardt and Pompejo Ricciardi (vocals). However, Ricciardi departed from Wolfsheim shortly after they recorded their first demo; he was replaced by Peter Heppner, a singer who was already familiar with the brothers since they were all raised in the same area of Wilhelmsburg, Germany. Olli eventually left the band as well, turning Wolfsheim into a duo. Heppner started writing new tracks, and Wolfsheim distributed two more cassettes to record labels. All of them replied with a rejection. In 1991, Strange Ways Records released Wolfsheim's CD single "The Sparrows and the Nightingales"; it sold more than 10,000 copies. It was followed by "It's Not Too Late"; a full-length, No Happy View, appeared a year later, selling more than 40,000 copies. In 1996, Reinhardt recorded Der Genetische Traum under the name Neustart, a side project featuring members of 'Girls Under Glass'and Stalin. Wolfsheim's fifth LP, Spectators, peaked at number two in Germany in 1999. 'Spectators' was released in the U.S. in 2001 by Metropolis Records; Casting Shadows came in 2003. The concept of this video is a simple and loosely woven portrayal of all of the three distinct personalities of a single schizophrenic who is speaking the lyrics of the song to the object of his affection. I have tried to make as clear as possible, an easily discernable distinction between the three characters while at the same time being able to visually merge them into one individual. Obviously, I have use my own face for the modeling of all three, and though I considered morphing software and Optical character recognition, I chose early on to attempt the experiment by means of tradition blending, overlays and lighting effects to achieve something with a rougher, looser, more impressionistic edge.

'Care for You' Lyrics

And when winter comes around, you'll need your winter shoes. ...But if winter's still about to get too cold for you. You´ll need someone to keep you warm...Someone to help you through the storm...Someone who's good...Doing no harm......and he'll say......I care for you... I'm there... I'm there for you... I care...And when the time is right, you'll wear your wedding shoes. And if this life still seems to be, not quite enough for you. You'll find someone to help you out...Someone to miss and dream about. That being in love...Is doing no harm......and he'll say......I care for you... I'm there...I'm there for you... I care...
