  • My dad was almost at that school, but his parents wanted him to go to a different one, possibly saving his life

  • The building that looks like a church is the church. The building in the middle is the rectory. The building that looks like a school is the new school that replaced the old school that was demolished at the same site

  • Today we a "Real Hero" of this Fire, CFD Firefighter (Retired) Richard Scheidt.

This is a loss to Chicago, The CFD, and all of those who were impacted by his bravery, and true tradional firefighting.

As a Fire Chief I respected his actions December 1st, 1958, and his career which certainly influenced mine. You will be missed, but not forgotten Richard!!

  • the new school is in the same place as the old one.

  • Good video! It would be great to have a voiceover or some text to identify all of the buildings and where the new school is in relation to the old one and the fire. I think I see the alley in one shot and the rectory, but I'm not sure. I don't suppose there is a plaque concerning the fire at the Avers & Iowa intersection. Thanks for posting this. May the Angels rest in peace. Best wishes to the survivors and their families and friends.
