I review the Hilleberg Soulo four season tent in a heavy rain and snow shower. This is a great one person tent for those looking for a very robust shelter.

Buying gear through the store helps support my work:

Thanks!

  • On paper the Soulo is a few inches wider and taller than the Akto with a smaller vestibule. Do you notice this difference? I'm 6'1" and my Akto can feel a little cramped if I need to button-up for a while, especially if I'm sitting.

  • @vettepilot427 The vestibule is definitely smaller on the Soulo. However it is taller and I can sit up in it easier than the Akto. On the Akto my head brushes the top when I sit. In the Soulo it does not (I'm 5'8").

  • @CrawlingRoad It looks like from your video that even with the smaller vestibule you still had room for your "outside gear". I have to sit EXACTLY in the middle to move around in my Akto. It's not a big deal as long as the inner tent doesn't touch the outer. I was curious if Hilleberg's numbers were noticeable in real-world use. Thanks again.

  • @vettepilot427 My gear does fit inside the vestibule. I'd say the Soulo has perhaps a few inches more room right in the center to sit. I have to sit in the middle more or less not to hit the inner fly. So I'd say that yes the numbers they post are correct. It does have more headroom because the roof pitches taller.

  • This is an excellent, real-world review. These are very common conditions that most would use the tent in North America. It isn't very helpful to review a tent on a sunny, calm, 75 degree day. I'm happy to see you take the time and effort to shoot this in the rain and cold. The other videos that show tents in 80 mph winds and extreme cold are torture tests. Although fun to watch, they're not relevant to 95% of the other users. Please post an update vid if you add a FP or mesh inner.

  • @vettepilot427 I have the mesh liner for the Akto, but have yet to try it yet. Probably will this summer.
