  • @nylonTS the Helmet is known as the Home Service Helmet and was issued to many regiments. It was used between 1878 - 1914 and was only worn when in the UK and when engaged in public duties (policing, prisoner escort to the gallows etc) it is similar to a police custodian helmet and served the same purpose. Police officers and soldiers could tell who they belonged to. It is only issued to the Regimental Bands now as Military Music is the only public duty that has not changed.

  • @nylonTS i can shed light on this. REME took over some of the duties of 5 Regiments/Corps who specialised in different things. these were Royal Army Ordinance Corps, Royal Engineers, Royal Corps of Signals, Royal Army Service Corps and the Royal Artillery. to form the new REME Corps they drew men from each of these 5 Corps. They all had different dress uniform and instead of creating a whole new one they took bits from each of the 5. That way everyone of the 5 was represented in the new uniform.

  • @cumberlandgap So why do they wear a victorian Uniform if they were not formed till 1942 Thanks

  • AS I understand the REME isquite a new corps so how come they wear aVictorian Uniform can any one tell me

  • @Winnie9212 and also it dates back to the time of queen victoria when britain was an empire.

  • @SialiaSialis1 Yeah I know that now, I'm in a brass band so I know all that. Drum Majors can be very grumpy people.

  • @HMservant - Drum Majors don't wear the aprons, they are the ones with the mace (stick thingie) leading the band. It is their role to choreograph the who show. The choice of music is usually that of the Band Master, who often isn't present on parade.

  • brilliant playing for a small Corps/Regimental Band! WELL DONE!

  • @HMservant it's exactly what Winnie9212 said but hey are not drum majors, just drummers
