if anyone else is interested... the easy way for me to play this song is to tune the heavy E string to the fifth harmonic of the A string. then when i'm done i can just tune the 6th string back to the seventh harmonic of the fifth string. i don't have the best ear but i seem to be able to do that okay. retuning all the strings to duplicate phil's tuning takes enough work so i would never do this song if i had to do it

wow that was kool . im lucky 2 get sandard 'E' tuning on this guitar i rebuilt in early 80s so I can cross this 1 off my list, lol, you did make it look easy which shows your talant.

I didnt make an mp3 of this but I downloaded the video with a few others and I play it while I drive sometimes

your cover is a million times better than the other covers on youtube. you are the man. you should write your own songs too, and do more covers. maybe some pearl jam. the other covers on youtube of this song are really awful, so awful that i want to write nasty comments but i feel guilty. but your version is really awesome. i am going to put this on mp3 and listen to it in my car.

@redlinechavez He said DROPPED D, down a whole tone. Dropped D is DADGBD. Now put this one step lower.

Dropped D tuning but all dropped a whole tone. CGCFAD

@PhilPlay Wait, if everything is dropped a whole tone, then why is your heavy E tuned to C? Shouldn't it be D? (Or did you start at D and tune it down to C)?
redlinechavez 1 year ago
@redlinechavez yes, every string dropped a whole tone
then heavy 'E' string (or rather D) dropped another whole tone to C. (acually I just tuned to a random string and that's how it turned out)
