  • I was an 8 year old child in England when I heard that broadcast. It is a perfect example of the result of trying to appease tyrants. A lesson that is as valid today as it was then. Those who ignore history are condemned to repeat it.

  • Some of the saddest sounds ever recorded. The beginning of years of horror, and the destruction of a way of life and a culture Everything changed after WWII. So much was lost, and most importantly, of course, the lives of so many young men and women.

  • Imagining broadcasting a message like that..... especially in Chamberlain's position. After all that bravado of preventing war. Now known as the stupidest politcian is UK history.......

  • As Chamberlain broadcast this message on 3 Sept 1939 many people across Britain were attending church services as it was a Sunday morning. The first they heard about the declaration of war in all those churches across the land was when someone hurried into the church and informed the vicar or the clergyman conducting the service and he in turn informed the congregation what had happened. In most cases the services carried on as normal - in a sombre mood, as were the Sunday lunches later.

  • @stefakamelpash Yes absolutely..a most poignant statement..by Mr Chamberlain & your good self..Peace!

  • @Tralgit You are so right why does no one else see it

  • Put muslims instead of Germans and you have WW III in the making.

  • History has been hard on NH, but he was a man of honour. Never forget that Hitler declared war on the USA in 1941, not vice-versa. In many ways America was only too happy to give Hitler a free hand in Europe. Was not that a greater crime than NH's "appeasement"? The UK was destroyed economically by WW2, which gave Rooseveldt some satisfaction

  • this was very helpful as i had to say this for my audition for the school play it helped me get an idea of how to say it

    thank you whoever made this!!!
