Tank Battalion playing on the CGL Sord M5 vintage home computer. Retro gaming.

This is not a review, walkthrough, playthrough, or demonstration of my playing ability.
It's simply a quick demonstration of the game so that anyone not familiar with these old games can see what it looks like.
It's also here so that I can embed it, along with most of the games in my collection, on my website (see link above).

Any opinions or comments I make regarding these games should largely be taken with a pinch of salt.
They are usually based on my first impressions after a very brief play.

  • I swear, not a month goes by that you don't have some sort of system that I've never heard of before.

CGL Sord M5? Where/when was that made, and can you give some background on it?

  • A Z80 based machine, it was launched in 1982 by Sord Computer Corporation in Japan, and sold as the CGL M5 in the UK for £195.

20k ram, 16k of which is screen memory.

8k rom, 16 colours, 32 hardware sprites, 3 sound channels, 1 noise channel.

Probably better than a spectrum, though with less memory.

Oh yeah, it runs cartridges as well as tapes.

  • OH man I Loved this game I remember reaching stage 80, every 10000 points you get an extra life and you end up getting used to it eventually, what I used to do is cut accross the map and just wait there, it works there is also something strange you can predict where the tanks come out of sometimes.

Oh one more thing these tanks can only shoot one bullet each between all of them so the last tank is a bitch to kill

  • I can vaguely remember this machine - seen one hooked up in a local computer shop back in the day. Great to see one in action!

  • Oh man I spent hours on this game I think I reached level 40 at one stage this was a hard game especially on the level where there are no walls !!!!!!!!

  • Ah... Memories, my first computer ever...
