Living as I am in an aboriginal community where I have several friends who have told me their experiences in Residential schools, (not all bad, but some bad) I told these friends that if they came to my house to take away my children, that the government would be met with force. My mother spent over a year in a concentration camp in the second world war, she knows about loosing freedom.
Dr. Morgentaler is against Third trimester abortion on moral moral grounds. Today life has no value.

Exactly! And he SAYS he has members from other parties, if this is such a pressing issue that is supported by so many Canadians why don't they come forward? What are they afraid of?
-
And particularly in a climate of political stalemates and backroom deals where nothing actually gets done, the last things we need is something to distract us from the real issues.
-
Because, there are many more pressing issues to deal with in this country than policing womens' bodies. Also, Harper has been trying to distance his party from the right wing crazies for years. Finally, the latch has broken. w00t!

How can it be one "lunatic member of parliament" if he is leading a caucus (which, from what I understand, comprises members from all 5 official parties)?
Yes very good point. We should be doing more for foster parents. IT should be noted that since aborting babies became legal in Canada right up to one minute before birth, the value of life has also gone down the tube. Funny how foster care and the broken family has mushroomed since the abortion gates have been thrown open. Most people in foster care that I know in my small town have been the victims of child sexual abuse. Unbelievable!

Are you suggesting there's a correlation between an increase in foster care cases and the relaxation of abortion laws? I have read studies that draw a correlation between rising foster care cases and the shitty economy.

Also, since when has Canadian society valued life? What about the generations of First Nations kids who were stuck in church/government run residential schools? The abuses that went on there are well documented. But what you may not know is that most of the kids in care in BC (over 60 %) are First Nations. Many of whom are children of residential school survivors. I think that generations of racist governmental policy has contributed a lot more to do with this than abortion laws.

I really enjoyed listening to your commentary. Your point about taking all the energy that is put into pro-life campaigns and redirecting in positive ways is some real food for thought! Obviously your preaching to the converted with me, but even right wingers can't deny how compelling your argument is. Keep it up.
