This is the last part (so far..) of my "(R)evolution of Rock Guitar.." video series, and it doubles as a demo of my new Fractal Audio Systems Axe-Fx II Preamp/FX processor and MFC-101 Midi Foot Controller.
The Axe-Fx II is used exclusively for all guitar sounds and effects and recorded direct in Cubase, no extra "tricks" done in the mix or anything, it's all coming from the Axe-Fx (except the backing tracks of course..) I'm listing which of the Axe-Fx II's numerous amp types, effects etc. that are being used on the different tracks, and also of course the different guitars I'm using; follow the on-screen text.
This video is my tribute to some of the great fusion/jazzrock guitarists that have inspired and influenced me, "filling the gap" between rock and jazz..
I've made a selection based on my knowledge and preferences, knowing that there are many other great players out there, too..
Enjoy, and thanks for watching!

  • This may be my favorite video of all the ones you've done. You absolutely nail the Mike Stern and Tribal Tech (S. Henderson) tone and vibe. Just fantastic stuff, Ketil. I wish you nothing but continued success. Keep recording your own tunes!

  • @jcshirke Thank you so much, and yes, I will! (I have actually begun planning my second album now..)

  • Now that was amazing, right up my alley.. Stellar Rays! I used to play that one with my band, great to hear it performed by you Ketil. That Axe II sounds phenomenal indeed! Cheers!

  • Amazing!

  • @synesthesia67 I have a couple of amps that I use both for practice and gigs where I don't need the Axe-Fx. None of them are tube amps, though. I have owned many tube amps before, and although a few of them sounded very good, there was always some hassle with them. I have a Tech 21 Trademark 60 that I'm very happy with, it sounds "tube-y" without the hassle.. Having the Axe-Fx I guess I don't really need anything more, but I like to have a regular amp as well, just because. ;-)

  • @rednebb totally awesome.....I really want an axe fx but can't afford...so far, only a real amp will do for our rockabilly recording project...but damn it,..the amp only sounds good cranked up good n loud...but the neighbors don't approve...my only option is my pod x3..which just doesn't cut it so far....do you ever crave for a real amp but settle for the axe fx? or has it replaced real amps for you altogether?...I am skeptical that it could really replace a fender cranked up and honkin

  • @AtkinsSon1 I use 4 expression pedals (2 Roland EV-5's and two M-Audio EX-P's) programmed to control different parameters: I normally use one for volume and one for wah, and the two others are used for various functions, for instance delay level, pitch, misc. effects on/off and/or eff. level, etc. (this can be programmed individually for each patch)

  • Sorry if this is a stupid and elementary question, but why are you using two expression pedals and a pair of each?

  • @synesthesia67 ;-) Well, there are actually several other Shawn Lane covers on youtube.. Yes, I have tabs for Fives, think I found it on ultimate-guitar, I usually find most of my tabs there (in guitarpro or powertabs format, I hate plain text tabs..). And yes, that "ridiculous" lick was really difficult, but I managed it somehow, even with my short fingers..)
