  • Great... Amazing...

  • @boguspurr, It does sound odd the way he pronounces it … more like 'pe - cathrin', but I've heard recordings do weirder things to common English word pronunciation in ordinary soft rock and pop music, so it might not necessarily be his pronunciation … I don't know … All the lyrics I've found on Google agree that it should be 'Pencaitland'.

  • @Gairlochan It should begin "A mile from Pencaitland on the road to the sea" - I can't figure out what he sings instead.

  • @boguspurr , the closest I can hear to anything like Pencaitland' is where he sings 'where the shadows OF SCOTLAND hang round you'. What kind of sound system are you listening to this through? Must be pretty rough …

  • @MarkHarmer, I reckon it would need Led Zep, with their talent for integrating folk into their rock and making it soar (e.g. Battle of Evermore amongst others) to really create and perform a rock version of this song, with John Paul Jones on his mandolin and our dear departed master of the beat, John 'Bonzo' Bonham to put serious muscle into it and really drive it home! Sandy Denny RIP would be brought back from the dead to add a ghostly, ethereal high end, of course, as in B of E.

    FOLK ROCKS!

  • Were you trying to sing "Pencaitland" at the start? if so that is the weirdest pronunciation I've ever heard for it.

  • The English Yew...one of the mightiest trees

  • I had the honor of a Renaissance Festival person sing this to me and my camp mates this past weekend, beautiful tale it be me friends

  • the tags are wrong.

should say "epic tone, epic, tone"

  • A yew tree just across the street has just been chopped... What can I say?
