Just going over a design for a flash back arrestor. Some people have been asking questions related to flash back arrestors when using a hydrogen fuel cell. So here it is. A very easy technique to implement a simple flash back arrestor using fine bronze wool picked up from a local boating supply store. This will be used in future experiments related to a HHO mini torch, and hydrogen heating applications.

There are three known techniques for flash back arrestors that are proven: fine bronze wool, cigarette filter, and a fine (white) fish tank air stone.

** Please NOTE **
3/8" Tap is tapered NPT (National Pipe Thread)

This is a safety mechanism that is MANDATORY in every HHO Cell design!

Safety is our top concern. Keep your set-up legit and you can ignite the gas with-out concern of explosions in your hydrogen experiments. That in itself is a accomplishment.

  • Why not use 1/2 inch tubing from cell to F.B. arrester and to engine ?? and do you still need a bubbler after the electrolyzer cell with this ?

  • This eliminates the use of a bubbler. The only reason people truly use a bubbler is not only just for safety, it can also be used as a scrubber to remove electrolyte from the gas passing through the water-bath.

  • Yes, that will work also if you find the 'fine' grade material. At one point we were experimenting with course stainless steel wool found for cleaning pots/pans. It did not work correctly as a flash-back arrestor.

If you find fine stainless steel then that would work the same. Up until this point the fine bronze wool has never failed for providing flash-back arrest.

Would recommend people test their device atleast 100 times or more.

  • Hey bud. Thanks for the shout out in this vid. Appreciate your making safety tips vids and helping me get the word out on arrestors. Doing a great service to the hho heads out there.

  • Just giving thanks for the heads up. :=)

  • were trying to help each other get from under the thumb of gov/oil oppression. Your profiteering is sickening. Patents are over, secrets are over, its time we band together, or we all die seperately.

  • you are the man, keep the HHO movement going

  • I wouldn't use PVC. It has a relatively low melting point... try copper tubing.

  • Thank you for making this video and explaining the great detail how it works and why it's needed :) Great work.

  • Just seperate the gasses and there's no flashback

    hydrofuelsys. com/cubecart/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=11

    just remove ^ space

  • For heating, you should go find some nichrome or tungsten wire and wrap it around a ceramic piece, then crunch some numbers to find out the length you need to get the proper current flow.

With electrolysis you're producing both a fuel and an oxidizer, so it can easily burn inside tubing or pipe, it's just not a good idea, should separate the electrodes and collect the hydrogen and oxygen separately.

  • fine bronze wool only singes a little, all steel wool ignites

  • Excellent video, thanks for taking the time to explain this concept clearly. Every step is covered; good job!

  • Just a thought, Steel wool rusts and HHO is high in humidity - bronze doesn't rust.

  • Now how do I tune my ECU in my vehicle to take in the hydrogen? and utilize the HHO?

  • no you dont want to use steel wool because it will burn right up when u have a flashback my friend and i made a flashback arrester and it failed and my bubbler exploded it sounded like a gunshot
