  • After checking with a friend, I found that this tune is called "Big Scioty" (also spelled "Big Sciota," because that is the spelling of the name of the river in Delaware County, Ohio.

  • OH, that's great! I did not know the name and was going to ask the guy playing banjo next time I saw him. Thanks!

  • Who is the banjo player? Joe was playing with his usual guy Tom Riccio at Mount Airy last week, who is amazing, in the same league as Mark Olitsky. They are also the coolest, funniest, and nicest guys imaginable.

  • Oh Lord, don't remind me that I missed Mount Airy once again! That is my favorite festival. Alas. Playing banjo is Nathaniel Rowan, he is a great fiddler and a Luthier, he plays banjo too - obviously, a fretless. Jason Sypher on bass. Yeah, I know what great guys they are, I lived in Lexington, Virginia in the late 70s and early 80s...and it was such a center for old time that many of the greats lived or passed thru there. I'd have to say Tom R. is in a class of his own...wide open...Peace, \jc
