The light was fading fast at 4:22 as Amtrak's northbound Palmetto bore down on North Collier, with the engineer in P42 203 saluting both the crews in the yard and the railfans as the train whipped past. In the distance, Q741 sat in the yard still waiting on a replacement for its ailing second unit.

  • Great shot!

  • @Aero203 Thanks! I find this to be a pretty good place for twilight/sunset shots, especially in summer.

  • The clouds and sunset are lovely in that shot! Interesting how the baggage car door was slightly open.

  • @trainkid16 Maybe it was stuffy in there?

  • @FastFlyingVirginian Could have been. Or maybe they didn't like one of their passengers...

  • @trainkid16 Well, I saw no bodies flying out the door as it approached. I think they usually save that for when they're over the river anyway.

  • @FastFlyingVirginian Hahahah. Or their upcoming stations (they actually had to do that on my train. When I took the Crescent to NY for Thanksgiving of 2010, we had a drunken passenger, whom I happened to encounter offering me a drink, that was arrested and removed from the train in Greensboro, NC without a left shoe. I didn't take the drink. Not that I would have, but it was especially sketchy. It was in a brown paper bag).
