Super Chicago track by the Star-tels. This group was made up of brothers David, James, and Victor Martin. Released in 1971 on Walter and Burgess Gardner's Lamarr label. It's interesting that the Martin brothers also recorded as the Chymes on Gardner's sister label Down To Earth. All the sides these guys did were quality cuts. Though David Martin wrote most of their material, this song was composed by Ray and Charles Buckner of the Buckner Brothers. Burgess Gardner's Soul Crusaders Orchestra was used on virtually all of the Lamarr and Down To Earth records, and the great arrangement and musicianship shine on this one. Though only a Chicagoland hit, this is a great record. From 1971, this is Windy City Soul. P.S. Please visit soln4suhreborn's channel to hear the tracks recorded by the Chymes. More great Chicago Soul.

  • I thought I had the only copy of this record. Last heard this on WGRT maybe 1972 when I started H.S. I've asked air personalities in Chgo to play the Star-Tells and they don't remember them or so they say. I wore the grooves out on the flip side, "You're Wrong About Me". Wanna C a grown man cry? Play It on You Tube! Thanx and God Bless you. ;-)

  • thanks for the kind comment. believe it or not, there is a pittsburgh DJ who plays this a lot. i turned him on to this record. check down the road for the flip. it is great too. for now, check my post of Danny Bell's version also on a burgess gardner label, down to earth.

  • That was very well done, being from Chicago, U made us proud, not to mention the STAR-TELLS, ty !

  • thank you!! shame the star-tells didn't record more. seems every track was a winner, including the songs they did as the Chymes.

  • i don't think the soul crusaders ever got their proper due as a house band! those guys were fab,big time! the chymes/star-tels cut some great records. down to earth, more soul,lamarr...south side 75th street soul!! you dug through the cobwebs for this one JC!,(SALUTE!)

..AND THANX FOR THE PROPS TOO!

  • thank you! just realized by your comment as soon as i read it, i put 'jazz crusaders'. i can't type and think at the same time. got to go and correct it.
