i agree people are too critical. but its all to cover up thier weaknesses. they want to be viewed as right or more important or something. because they focus on the wrong things in life they have little tallent. or its undiscoverd. so they are jealous and point out when people are wrong whenever they can. its kind of sad. everyone should smile and we all have a good time.

You cannot surpass any original. Without the original there is no cover so it cannot happen. But covers aren't meant to do that, They are used to bring light to older classics. Introduce newer generations to older songs. Bob Dylan would be happy that people are keeping his songs alive and out there. If it weren't for Metric I probably wouldn't have known anything about Bob Dylans work.

This is a very nice straight forward version, I like the fact he in particular is not trying to "do Dylan" as it were. Anyone that can HATE on a tune like this has probably never created a single note in their life, are tone deaf and have no voice of their own.

Dylan himself often performed the song without the fingerpicking. The "Before the Flood" version is one of my favorites, and he is strumming in that one. I'd recommend a listen if you haven't hard it.

Way to hate a nice, simple cover?

Well guess what, capos are used primarily to adjust the key of the song to the voice of the singer. What's wrong with that?

And why not play it with a pick? The fingerpicking version is difficult as hell and the strumming version they played sounds great.

I don't believe they did those things because they frantically searched for something to add "their stamp" but rather just because they liked the sound of it or thought it suited them better.
