Not bad, man. Thumbs up for your accurate evaluation of the present situation, your hope for the future, and that brief smile I thought I saw. Happy trails!

you are smart and well spoken, I VERY much liked this speech. You Rock!

Good job S. I commend your bravery subjecting yourself to be scrutinized by not just your peers, but also those who may want to try to silence you. When there is no more darkness for the light to shine upon, what lurks in the dark has to flee to safety, because it knows the wrongs of it's ways...Some secrets are not meant to be hidden away, because that is an avenue where true evil lies-where true lies are evil marks the end of a dead-end street...This intersection; we stare at the face of evil.

from a technical point of view it is indeed almost impossible to have total realtime control over the whole web.
this however isn't really necessary to maintain control. It is sufficient to create a body of law, create some moral panic and set some examples to isolate activists from sheep. And we all know when a predator hits: when the victim is isolated.
btw. i lurk on ats.

...interests other than trying to inform an audience as adequate as possible. As an ex-editor-in-chief i can tell about corporate interests filtering out critical information that might "hurt the brand".
but then again your message isn't about the meaning of a word, it's about a momentum that might turn out to be pivotal for the next phase of the internet. while i feel optimism in your analysis, i have to admit i don't share that optimism...

while i feel very sympathetic towards the motives and ideology of your effort to explain, i feel the notion of gatekeeping isn't really explained too well as it brings in ideology while basically the notion doesn't need that. "gatekeeping" can be described as the process of filtering information that will distributed. There are practical, non-ideological reasons for this.
Of course it would be naive to think the reasons given for the actual selection aren't reflecting other interests...
Totally agree. To question the powers-that-be doesn't need to imply conspiracy theories at all. It's just simple human desire for control and maintaining that control. Gate-keeping is as old as it gets. Protect the territory and order. Furthermore, everyone thinks they can do it better with the "best intentions". The internet seems to have revealed the weakness of our corporate and governmental institutions which is also the same weakness of humanity...greed and opportunistic tendencies.
